Vintage Design
Gijs van der Sluis was a Dutch furniture designer from the mid-century. He started his own company ”van der Sluis stalen meubelen” (van der Sluis steel furniture) in 1950, which was active till 1990. He and his company were responsible for some of the most famous Dutch mid-century design items. His sleeper sofa model 540 was a huge success and is still being sold today. Other items by his hand are the 36DLA sofa, number 60 lounge chairs, number 33 dining chair. Together with Martin Visser, Rob Parry, Wim Rietveld and Friso Kramer he his among the Dutch mid-century designers to remember.
