Freiler was the production chief and Fels was head of design and their shared goal was to produce gallery-quality art for the masses. Under Freiler’s meticulous direction, the artisans at Curtis Jeré – a number of whom were minorities or handicapped – hand sheared, crimped, torched, and welded brass, copper, and other metals into what have now become some of the most iconic sculptures of the Mid-Century Modern period.
