A reindeer is the star of the snowy scene on this extraordinarily rare porcelain dinner plate. Crafted by Royal Copenhagen, it is part of the firm’s highly celebrated Flora Danica collection. Flora Danica is known worldwide for its intricate and highly detailed illustrations of the native flowers of Denmark. This dish, however, was crafted as part of a very rare series painted with woodland animals, and is perhaps the only of its kind to have ever been made.
As with all Flora Danica pieces, this Latin name of the animal, Rangifer tarandus, is written on the reverse. The hand-painted motif is perfectly complemented by vibrant gilt borders.
