Natural Stone Mosaic Coffee Table by Paul Kingma, 1960s

Vintage mid-century coffee table on a black metal base. A beautiful mosaic of slate and other stones in shades of grey, green and brown designed by the Dutch sculptor Paul Kingma,1960s. Paul Kingman, born in 1931, was a sculptor and mosaic artist. In his early years, he studied art in Arnhem and became a teacher at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam and the Royal Academy of Arts in London. In his career, he made several sculptures for public spaces in Dutch cities. Next to his sculptures, he also made mosaic tables. It was these tables he became most famous for. All of his coffee tables he handmade with materials he gathered during his travels around the world are now being considered as highly collectible. He made these tables from the 1960s to the 1980s.
